It was a Sunday morning when we received word there was a dog lying in the ditch just a few blocks away from the sanctuary.  Unsure of what to expect, we grabbed some emergency supplies and rushed out to see if we could help. His fur was the same tan color as the grass, so we almost passed right by this sweet young fellow named Brisco.  He had been hit by a car, and it was easy to see his injuries were extensive. He must have been in shock, because he did not growl or whimper as we carefully loaded him into the van to seek emergency medical care. The doctors at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center quickly examined Brisco and began treatment for his injuries including two broken legs, a partially amputated toe, and internal bleeding.  Sadly, the doctors estimated that he suffered on the roadside, wet, cold, and in pain for over 24 hours. This incredibly sweet 8 month old lab mix is now on the road to recovery.  When anyone approaches, he wags his tail showing how grateful he is to be safe, warm, and loved.
