Brisco the Brave

Brisco the Brave

It was a Sunday morning when we received word there was a dog lying in the ditch just a few blocks away from the sanctuary.  Unsure of what to expect, we grabbed some emergency supplies and rushed out to see if we could help. His fur was the same tan color as the grass, so we almost passed right by this sweet young fellow named Brisco.  He had been hit by a car, and it was easy to see his injuries were extensive. He must have been in shock, because he did not growl or whimper as we carefully loaded him into the van to seek emergency medical care. The doctors at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center quickly examined Brisco and began treatment for his injuries including two broken legs, a partially amputated toe, and internal bleeding.  Sadly, the doctors estimated that he suffered on the roadside, wet, cold, and in pain for over 24 hours. This incredibly sweet 8 month old lab mix is now on the road to recovery.  When anyone approaches, he wags his tail showing how grateful he is to be safe, warm, and loved. Please consider donating to help pay for Brisco’s surgery and follow up medical care.   Please Donate Now

HHAS Receives Wells Fargo Grant!

Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary received a Community Giving grant from the Port City Branch of Wells Fargo Bank.

It was an honor to be among the many nonprofits represented as Wells Fargo generously donated to “give back to the community.”  The small Yorkshire Terrier, Kaylee represented Hallie Hill well, and accepted the check from bank manager, Jonathan Atkinson.  The money will be spent to provide medical care for the residents of the sanctuary.

Success Story- Eugenie

I adopted Eugenie as a puppy from Hallie Hill eight years ago. Eugenie, her mother and her siblings were picked up from a road in Hollywood, all with a severe case of mange. When I brought Eugenie home, my husband said, ” that’s not a puppy, that’s a rat,” as she had little to no hair. All of my adult dogs snarled and growled at her, but to no avail, as her innate confidence made her the alpha of our pack in no time at all. She was the easiest puppy in the world to train – never chewed anything and had only one accident in the house! Eugenie is extremely calm, confident and personable. We often visit a nearby assisted living facility – she is totally nonplussed by wheel chairs, scooters, walkers, etc., and loves to entertain. When we go to the vet for appointments, she treats the waiting room as if she were greeting guests arriving for a party at her house! Over the last eight years, Eugenie and I have walked, hiked and run about two thousand miles per year. She is a phenomenal companion – and from her homely and humble beginnings, who knew!!
