Jena Jones

Jena Jones is an animal advocate, Army Veteran, business owner, and want-to-be farmer! Jena has a longstanding history with animal service organizations. She has both volunteered and served in formal roles within 501c3s since 2007. She served as the Director of Development for a therapeutic riding facility and has been a board member of an Arizona rescue and sanctuary for over 10 years. In her time supporting these organizations, she has managed operations, led growth/fundraising efforts, and provided animal care and fostering. She is proud to say that the number of fostered friends is over 60!

Jena still spends every day actively engaged in animal care and animal welfare. It is her single greatest passion and priority. She owns a small farm caring for sanctuary animals, including horses, cows, goats, dogs, and cats. She hopes one day, she can grow up to be a full-time Farmer. Jena splits time between Columbus, NC, and Meggett, South Carolina, just around the corner from Hallie Hill.

Jena founded and serves as CEO of PGT Solutions, a healthcare-focused IT and professional services consulting firm. PGT focuses on support to Veterans and Service Members through improving healthcare and other critical support to them and their families. She first got involved with Hallie Hill when looking for an animal service organization to bring PGT employees to volunteer. Time spent volunteering resulted in a desire to help further the Hallie Hill mission and, naturally, in bringing home a new family member. Nora, the dramatically friendly Anatolian Shepherd, is a Hallie Hill alum and now spends her time exactly how she wishes: watching over her goat babies… in between naps on the couch, of course!

5 Reasons Why Dog Dental Care is So Important

5 Reasons Why Dog Dental Care is So Important

How would you feel if you never brushed your teeth? Constantly having lots of plaque and an unpleasant taste in your mouth would probably be more than you could tolerate. Your wallet probably wouldn’t feel so good either after having to pay a hefty dentist bill to get your oral health back in good shape. Now imagine what could happen to your dog’s mouth without proper dog dental care. The simple answer is dog dental disease.

Dental diseases in dogs are quite common. By age 3, over 80 percent of dogs have some form of dental disease, also known as periodontal disease. Dog dental disease has serious consequences, so maintaining good dog dental care is very important.

What Is Dental Disease?
Dental disease affects the teeth, gums, and structures that support and surround a dog’s teeth. It begins with plaque buildup on the teeth. This plaque contains bacteria and food particles.
Plaque that stays on the teeth hardens into tartar. When tartar is above the gum line, it’s easily visible, and your veterinarian can remove it relatively easily during a professional dental cleaning.
However, looks can be deceiving. A set of pearly whites doesn’t necessarily mean that your dog’s mouth is healthy. Tartar that makes its way below the gumline is the real problem.

Volunteer Spotlight Amanda

Volunteer Spotlight Amanda

Amanda grew up in Summerville and has lived most of her life in the Charleston area. She has had several jobs in the logistics field and is now retired. Amanda’s love of animals comes from her father, who, in his later years, lived on a farm in North Georgia and raised goats as a hobby; each of which he named. Amanda is passionate about helping animals and derives great joy from working to gain the trust of the shy dogs at Hallie Hill so that they can find a permanent home in the future. Amanda lives in West Ashley with her husband and their thirteen-year-old dog Murphy, “the old man.” Her past pets have included cats and talking birds.

Thank you, Amanda, for your hard work and dedication!!!
Hallie Hill loves you!

Carol Preisinger

Carol Preisinger

Carol grew up in a golfing family; her dad was a PGA Tour player and Club Pro.
Saying she is a true Dawg fan is an understatement, Carol graduated from UGA with a
BA in psychology. But her true calling is teaching golf, coaching players of all abilities
and being recognized as one of the best golf teachers in America.

Growing up, Carol loved cats but didn’t rescue her first hound dog until she
moved from Marietta Ga. to Charleston. She now lives with her 6 year old rescue dog
Roscoe, a sweet Treeing Walker/Siberian Husky mix. Looking for a playmate for
Roscoe, Carol adopted Beau, an American Foxhound. After a year, the relationship
between them became strained, and thankfully Hallie Hill came to the rescue.

“Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary gave Beau a safe haven to grow into an adoptable
dog. When I visit Beau often, his personality shines. It warms my heart to know that
Beau is now helping abused dogs become more social. The entire staff at Hallie Hill is a
blessing to the low country, and they need our support more than ever!”
